Chamber Music Showcase

The SDSU School of Music and Dance and the Downtown Central Library present a chamber music showcase featuring the top student ensembles representing the string, piano, wind and brass chamber music programs at the school. At the Central Library’s Neil Morgan Auditorium, student chamber ensembles will perform side by side with mentors and ensembles in residence, the Hausmann Quartet and Westwind Brass. The program features chamber music repertoire spanning the centuries and is a celebration of SDSU’s strong commitment to the art of chamber music.

The study of Chamber music at SDSU is an important part of the music curriculum and enriches programs throughout the school. Leadership, cooperation and teamwork are cultivated in small ensembles where each person plays an equally important musical part. Students learn to collaborate in order to achieve their musical goals with the guidance and mentorship of SDSU’s music faculty including members in the acclaimed Hausmann Quartet, Westwind Brass and visiting artists who coach the groups in learning to play together and discover their own musical ideas. Through chamber music, students learn how to be independent artists, more aware and acute listeners, leaders and creative thinkers.
