Pop-Up Events are informal performances, exhibits, demonstrations, and interactive art-making stations that appear at various locations on the SDSU campus. Like the Art Benches, the Pop-Up Events enrich the university environment by bringing the arts outside of traditional venues into the centers of student activity, inviting all members of the SDSU community to share the experience. Please note that all Pop-Up Events are free and can be identified by the Arts Alive SDSU banner.
The Pop-Up performances, which are unannounced and typically last 10–45 minutes in duration, raise visibility of the arts programs at SDSU by promoting Signature and Supported events, curriculum-based productions that feature student, faculty, and guest artists. Anyone whose attention is captured by a particular Pop-Up performance is encouraged to attend the full production of the event, information for which will be available at the Pop-Up Event.
Another Pop-Up Event that has proven extremely popular is the interactive art-making station, which invites all SDSU students, faculty, and staff (regardless of experience or skill level!) to take a moment to create a unique work of art. Sponsored by Arts Alive SDSU, these art-making stations come fully equipped with necessary supplies and are facilitated by an advanced art student who will provide basic instruction and assistance in whichever activity is being offered that day. (Interactive art-making stations have featured such media as ceramics, jewelry, painting, and woodworking.)
