The Arts Alive SDSU Discovery Series is an annual selection of university produced art exhibits, performances, and film screenings that explore sociopolitical and cultural issues through the transformative lens of the creative arts. Designed to intersect with contemporary studies in the humanities and sciences, the Discovery Series promotes the arts as an inclusive and impactful research practice that is integral to a comprehensive education.
Arts Alive SDSU sponsors six Discovery Series projects per academic year. The funding will primarily support visiting guest artists who will work with faculty and students from multiple academic units to situate the arts event into a broader spectrum of university life. To qualify, the event must be based in the curriculum, it must feature students, and it must address a sociopolitical or cultural theme relevant to a larger dialogue taking place on campus or in the community. It must also be open to the public and include an interdisciplinary forum with representatives from a department in the humanities and/or sciences.
